For fifteen years, The Bloomfield Dance Collective has trained dancers who have gone on to headline at the Minskoff Burlesque Festival and tour with nationally recognized fusion troupes. This fall, we're opening our studio doors for three intensive weekends of belly dance immersion—700 square feet of sprung maple flooring, a professional lighting grid, and no mirrors in the main studio to keep you focused on sensation, not reflection.
Whether you're stepping into your first hip scarf or refining a solo for your promotional reel, our bootcamps offer defined tracks, small cohorts, and instruction from working performers with verifiable roots in the field.
Three Tracks, One Standard: Rigorous Training
We cap every session at 12 dancers. That is not a marketing line—it is a structural choice. Small groups mean your alignment gets corrected, your questions get answered, and your progress gets noticed.
Foundations Track
Saturdays, September 7–28 | 12:00–3:00 PM | $325 early-bird / $385 regular
New to belly dance? This is your entry point. Over four weeks, you will cover:
- Posture and alignment for safe, sustainable movement
- Core isolations (hips, chest, shoulders, head) with rhythmic application
- Your first full choreography in Egyptian Raqs Sharqi style
- A beginner-friendly introduction to zills (finger cymbals)
No prior dance experience required. Wear comfortable leggings or a full skirt; hip scarves are provided.
Artist Intensive
Fridays & Saturdays, October 11–26 | 6:00–9:00 PM Fri / 10:00 AM–4:00 PM Sat | $575 early-bird / $650 regular
For returning performers ready to be pushed. This track includes:
- Advanced technique: layered isolations, travelling footwork, and dynamic expression
- Improvisation to live Arabic percussion
- Two choreographed pieces—one Egyptian Cabaret, one Tribal Fusion
- Mock auditions with written feedback
- Filmed showcase material for your promotional reel
Admission by brief video submission or instructor approval.
Prop Mastery Mini-Intensive
Sunday, November 3 | 10:00 AM–6:00 PM | $195
A single-day deep dive into three props: veil, zills, and sword. Previous belly dance training strongly recommended.
Who You'll Learn From
Our instructors are not retired performers. They are active artists with documented lineages and current stage credits.
Nadia Farouk leads the Foundations and Artist Intensive tracks. She trained with Yousry Sharif in New York and has performed at the Annual Arabesque Festival in Chicago for the past eight years. Her teaching focuses on musicality and clean, repeatable technique.
Aria Blackwood co-teaches the Artist Intensive and leads the Prop Mastery day. A Tribal Fusion performer and sword dancer, she has toured with the Dark Caravan Troupe since 2019 and specializes in theatrical staging and prop safety.
The Space: Why Studio Environment Matters
Our Bloomfield location—two blocks from the Walnut Street train station—was renovated in 2022 specifically for Middle Eastern and North African dance forms. Features include:
- Sprung maple floors to protect knees and ankles during repetitive drills
- Ceiling-height mirrors that slide away for mirror-free training
- Professional lighting grid for dress rehearsals and filmed performances
- On-site costume construction space with industrial sewing machines and a reference library of vintage patterns
- Natural light and ventilation from north-facing factory windows
We share the building with a Lebanese bakery and an independent record shop. Students often gather post-session for coffee and debrief.
What Past Attendees Say
"I came in with two years of drop-in classes and no performance experience. The mock audition alone was worth the price—I finally understood what 'stage presence' meant for my body, not just as a concept." — Dana R., Artist Intensive 2023
"The mirror-free training changed how I practice. I stopped fixating on how my arms looked and started feeling where my weight was. My technique improved faster in four weeks than in a year of standard classes." — Sofia M., Foundations 2023
